'The Great Creator's Block'

Was just thinking of something as I was working on some drawings, that I often have what I would call 'drawer's block' for various reasons. One reason might be that you are unable to work out a problem at hand, that your skills just don't cut it. Another, and my most common one, is that I really want to draw something out of desire for practice, but not having any topic at hand. What you might call, that there's motivation, but no inspiration. Not that I expect it to come flying at me at any time without any doing on my part, but for the most time I really want to draw, but rarely ever want to draw anything. So I just end up doing boring, uninspirational work like bodies in different angles and positions, settings, clothing and objects etc. It's like I have the tools but not the spirit...

So, neways, I know a lot of the ppl on the board are active creatively and bet that most of you encounter similar blockades at times. So, I was just wondering what forms yours take. If you're willing to share.

Oh God, the Dreaded Artist's Block. I'm in one right now. No matter how hard I try to figure out something to draw I always wind up with a face or a body or some kooky creature that only us fucked up artist's with artist's blocks could ever conceive. Of course if one cannot draw, then one shall write!!!!! And if I get both block's at once I go out for a Beer.

Hehe, I'm the sleepy one or the quiter. I gave up on lots of artsy things recently, I don't write anymore, I don't draw anymore, but the latter also stems from a lack of desire to draw.

My head's too cluttered and I'd rather zone out in front of the t.v. or read a book or do some school work than pretend I'm a creative person. So I quit.

No, I'm working on three different pictures right now. One deals with five of the past movie legends, Dean, Monroe, Presley, Bogart, and Grable. Not done in the Chris Consani way but a completely different way. Then I'm working on a Dale Earnhardt Jr. picture and a Dale Earnhardt Sr. picture.

I still haven't done anything more, I tried to stimulate myself by taking a writing class last semester, but it didn't really work, I gave up on both art and writing.. I dunno, I don't have any ideas and I'm not really stimulated to come up with anything either.

I've just been writing reviews for my website to keep myself busy and to prevent myself from becoming a clone of my professors and think for myself a little bit...

Just a little bit though.. not too much. :P

When I run into writer's block (usually while trying to work out a particular problem in a story), I find that forcing myself to write anything else helps me come back to the original story. That way I keep writing (even if it's just garbage) and my subconscious works out my problem.
